2017-2018 Updates
Ms. Baxley is in the process of setting up the Heart & Sole program that will start in February.Ms Baxley needs your help to recruit young ladies that would truly benefit from this program. The running part is the least important meaning she is not seeking out athletic girls or runners--the most important part is the curriculum that helps foster a positive environment where they can build relationships, learn about themselves, explore new ideas and cultivate empathy. Ms. Baxley is looking for those young ladies who may not feel like they have a place to fit in, the one who would not ordinarily go out for a sports team or have strong community involvement. These young ladies will definitely need a personal invitation and/or encouragement to participate from one of their teachers. She will begin recruiting in December but need your help to start spreading the word now and generating curiosity and interest.
A few quick facts:
It is a 10 wk program (Feb--April)
Tues & Thurs--90 min after school
Fee is usually $205 for each girl but it is on a sliding scale based on income and partial scholarships are available
Team will have 8-12 girls
Participants are selected on a lottery basis.
Classroom lessons: Mrs. Hicks will be teaching a Human Trafficking lesson through the 7th grade Healthy Living series classes during the month of November. Seventh graders will receive a parent letter from their 7th grade Homeroom teacher to share with their parent(s)/guardian(s).A copy of the parent letter is posted below.
Quarter 2 begins Wednesday, November 1st.
ELECTIVES
Students typically have three class periods available for their electives. Students can choose from yearlong, semester long, or quarter long electives.
Request to change a schedule
We do our best to accommodate elective choices. However, conflicts with core classes, yearlong electives, and/or class size sometimes prevents us from placing students in their chosen elective class. In those cases, we select a class of similar interest or based on what is available.
Students may request to change an elective the first few days of the semester only. Forms are available in Student Services. Changes will not be considered if the student selected the elective as a primary or alternate choice.
